From Junior Major:
In a not-so-distant future, technology extends life beyond the body. Memories are uploaded, genes rewritten, and time suspended through cryonics.
Inside Eterna.Life, a fictional company exploring the pursuit of eternal existence, people take part in an interview to join its ranks. AI avatars from each department question, guide and respond in real time, revealing the science, ethics and emotion behind these advances.
Through conversation, you learn as much about yourself as about the technology, a quietly unsettling experience that asks, in the end, not could you work here, but would you want to?
Built in Unreal Engine with Convai AI, three metahuman characters hold real-time conversations via integrated microphones and Arduino based controls. Locally hosted web apps manage onboarding, offboarding and dialogue flow via MQTT, creating a seamless mix of AI, performance and interaction. Five projectors project large-scale supporting content onto a custom fabricated hanging scrim system.
My involvement with this project required 3 custom characters (Joi, Gene and Evelyn) with unique costumes and dynamic cosmetic elements. Shimmering skin, reactive hair colour and liquid clothing made for this experience allowed me to further explore the metahuman toolset that Epic Games provided at the time, and push them to their limits.
